Counting forwards and backwards
A past date gives days since, a future date gives days until, and the counter switches between the two on its own. Both use the same arithmetic: the number of complete days between two calendar dates, with every leap day in the period included. That is why a ten year span comes to 3,652 or 3,653 days rather than 3,650.
Milestones
Once a date is set, the table below fills with the round day numbers people tend to mark: 100, 500, 1,000 and so on, each with its calendar date, weekday and distance from today. Those are the numbers worth putting in a calendar, because unlike anniversaries they never land on the same date twice and are easy to miss.
Saving a count
Nothing is stored on a server, so a count lives in its link. Set a date and a label and the box above fills with a URL containing both. Bookmark it and the page reopens on the same count, recalculated for whatever day you open it. Nothing about the count is recorded here and there is no account to make.

- Does it count the start date itself?
- No. The start date is day zero and the following day is day one, which is the same convention as an age or an anniversary.
- Can I count to a future date?
- Yes. Pick any date up to 2030 and it counts down instead of up.

- No. The calculation runs in your browser and the shareable link is built there too. Nothing is sent to us.
